In ‘H.E.R.B.S’ Nienke Hoogvliet wrote down her process on the research of natural and herbal textile dyes as an alternative for the now often, harmful synthetical dyes. What harmful chemicals are used now, how does this possibly affect us and can herbal dyes offer the opposite, a beneficial effect? Via a literature study and sample analysis, she answers these questions.

After her she created the  ‘H.E.R.B.S. quilt’ (2019), dyed with sage, rosemary and chamomile, she decided to continue her research on other natural dyes like indigo, madder and turmeric.  She shares the research in this publication to make as many people aware as possible.
